A message from Michael Moore.

The Clarence Darrow quote "When I was a boy I was told that anyone could be President; I'm beginning to believe it."is going around in my head. Crazy thoughts!
I am glad I am not the only one who spotted the Bavarian Nazi Pope connection Snow. The intro mentions you can not vote because...... - For real ? What's the deal with they 'couldnt get their act together' ?

I am a registered democrat and I will vote for the candidate of my party. Goodness help us all.

I love me some Obama!

For real ? What's the deal with they 'couldnt get their act together' ?

They held their primaries too early so their votes don't count. They knew this would happen before they set the dates, but they did it anyway and now are crying foul.
According to that news item 5.2 million votes are now wasted and will not be registered, that's appalling enough but the story also states that holding another vote would be too expensive. LMAO - if America can afford a 5 year war it can afford to organize a new vote session in a couple of states... god bless america

This is an illustration of the outlandish power of parties. Politics in America is strangled, twisted, throttled, shut up and fabricated by the plastic surgery of the repub and demo parties. Citizens cannot act in politics without approval of parties. When citizens act outside of the parties, the parties conspire to eliminate that outsider activism. Who is on the ballot? Ask the parties? Who gets to appear at debates? Ask the parties? What are the rules for campaign financing? Ask the parties.

What can Americans say or not say? Ask the parties.

if America can afford a 5 year war it can afford to organize a new vote session in a couple of states

You can't equate the two. Wars are paid for by the federal government, the elections in question are paid for by state and local governments. Not the same pot of money.

If this were the general election for the whole ball of wax I'd be more concerned about the issue, but as it's only the primary election to see who will be on the final ballot I'm not so concerned. I really don't think it will have that much of an impact on the final results. And I certainly don't feel sorry for them. They knew the rules ahead of time, they were openly warned of what would happen when they first set the dates and had plenty of time to reschedule at little or no addition cost, and they simply chose to take their chances because they wanted to hold their elections first and hopefully set the tone for the rest of the country. Now that they have lost their gamble they want do overs. Sorry folks. That ain't the way the game is played.
Maybe not the same pot but the same people hold the purse strings but I do see your point. Your last line makes the comment - that aint the way the game is played - that kind of gets to the root really - elections worldwide are turning into charades

Maybe not the same pot but the same people hold the purse strings

No, the same people do not hold the purse strings. The federal government does not have the authority (at least in theory) to tell the state and local governments how they will spend their money. Likewise, the state does not have the authority to tell the local government how to spend its money. And the local government does not have the authority to tell me how to spend my money.

I say it's only in theory because governments at all levels are known to skirt around that rule by passing unfunded mandates. When they tell you that you have to do something and then don't give you the money to do it with they are indirectly controlling your purse strings.
[this is good]
And this is the only reason that my voter ID card declares my membership in one of the big two parties. I'd be an independent if it didn't shut me out of so much of the process.

Moore would have more credence if he documented corruption and stupidity across party lines.

Personally, I think Michael Moore is an ass. But he does get people talking.

Perhaps, but why should he? I haven't noticed the mostly conservative media making any attempt to do do. I personally think that he is a refreshing voice in a world dominated by corporate media stooges.

Personally, I think Michael Moore is an ass. But he does get people talking.
No more an ass than the great bulk of conservative talking heads that seem to dominate the U.S. media. At least he is more socially aware than the rest of them put together.

I think the political debate in the U.S. media is an absolute disgrace with more attention paid to trivia such as a candidate's religious conviction than the very real economic, health, security, and environmental concerns confronting the world at large. I would go further and say that this is no accident, and is a deliberate policy pursued by those in the corporate world who see it as being in their interests to dumb down the masses.

You won't get any arguments out of me on that. But I still stand behind my statement. He may be socially aware, but he can slant a story in favor of his argument with the best of them.
You won't get any arguments out of me on that.
Damn! I must be losing my touch. ;o) Comes with age, I guess...

Perhaps, but why should he?

Because Moore has more talent in his little finger then most political talking heads have in their whole head. If he would of used that talent for the good of ALL the people instead of taking sides in political parties he could of accomplished/still accomplish what most political talking heads can only dream about. Real change through the media.
But why shouldn't he take political sides, if he thinks that one party is more likely to achieve his aims than another? He obviously feels that the Republican Party isn't going to get the U.S, out of Iraq, or is going to bring about health care reform, so why shouldn't he opt for the party/President that he thinks may bring about the changes he wants? It seems to me that what he is talking about is for the good of all people, and not just the corporate sector that Republicans pander to.
Its not so much the actual taking sides as it is the way he takes sides.

But why shouldn't he take political sides, if he thinks that one party is more likely to achieve his aims than another?
Thats the thing, Democrats are not going to achieve his aims and he knows that, not even come close but Moore will not acknowledge that openly because his die hard Democrat mind wont let him. Hes already said more then once that Obama and Hillary both when it comes to Healthcare are pandering to corporate interests and neither of their plans is really going to help anything. So all that leaves is Iraq.

Even with Iraq when it comes to Dems achieving his aims he is on shaky ground, especially with Obama, but none of that matters to Moore, Hillary and Obama are Democrats therefore they have to be better then Republicans. Even if Obama was a Republican with the exact same stands as Moore, Moore would never consider him simply because of the Republican tag.

If Moore were true to his convictions, there is no way on earth he could actually side with Democrats or Republicans.

Besides. It is a generally valid judgment people make that if you are busy taking sides, you are likely to be twisting the facts. College sophomores and dogmatic autocrats (either in office or with tenure) are easily pegged by the rest of us because they are so eager to push their agenda they end up obnoxiously unbalanced. For this reason, I can hear Ralph Nader as MORE balanced critic of the broken political system because of his non-partisan willingness to get at core problems. Moore, on the other hand, is easily dismissed, even though he is a gifted rhetorician and filmmaker.

huh - i didn't know that little tidbit about the Clintons and Rev. Wright - kudos to Obama's camp for that - geez - thanks for that, Snowy!

"A human being is a part of the whole, called by us, "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security." : Albert Einstein - (1879-1955) Physicist and Professor, Nobel Prize 1921
