The speech I would have made to the R.N.C.....but they didn't invite me.

Bravo Snowy, you've outdone yourself with this well-placed and well-timed piece!
Thanks Ninja. Does this mean you'll vote for me?
Any friend of JW's is a mate. Bravo.
Now we're getting the priorities right...
The candidate he so denigrates promises real change;
Does he? So far all I've heard from either candidate is lip service. I'll reserve my opinion for after I've seen the two of them go head to head in a couple of debates. Having said that, I will agree with you that it's high time our government came to realize that the world is getting smaller every day and we need to start thinking in terms of one world, not just one country. But we are a stubborn people and this change is going to be hard to swallow.
Thanks for reading anyway. That is enough. And you're up early, or is that late?
Well - my guess is that you will never be invited now! A good post with a lot of great points.

Thanks for reading anyway. That is enough.

I always enjoy reading your posts even if I don't always agree with your point of view. It's always clear that you've done your homework and thought through your statements before you make them. I appreciate that. No one (including you and me) has a truly impartial view of any situation. For that reason I make a point of listening to people like you who have a different opinion from my own. Hopefully, listening to all sides helps me to make a better decision for myself. If not, at least I've learned something.

And you're up early, or is that late?

Couldn't sleep so I got up for a bit and then went back to bed. Middle age sucks! 8:-)

[this is good]
Worthy of a standing ovation. Well said, Snowy.
McCain's choice of vp doesn't believe climate change is man-made.
McCain is an old 70s. (Sorry, look at him move, he's a little old man).
Good chance his vp would finish his term.

McCain's choice of vp doesn't believe climate change is man-made.

No, she certainly doesn't seem to, but it's not the only issue to be considered nor is she the one who will set national policy on the issue.

McCain is an old 70s. (Sorry, look at him move, he's a little old man).

He moves the way he does because he suffers from war wounds (specifically two broken arms and a broken leg) that were left untreated for over five years while he was being held as a prisoner of war. This does not mean he will die soon. FDR was confined to a wheel chair. That didn't inhibit his ability to lead. You can judge John McCain on his record all you like, but don't judge him on his inability to raise his arms above his shoulders. It means nothing.

If genes mean anything too... look at McCain's mother. She is still alive in her 90s.
I consider the record first, that's why he's off my list.
90+% voting with Bush agenda.
Enough for me.
Or go back into time a bit - he was implicated in the Keating Five.
An old scandal, but still relevant.
Or you can go to character, and walking out on his ailing navy wife to pick up the heiress.
Or the temper.
Lots of reasons I don't like the idea of putting this man in such a place of power.

Thanks. And O.K. about the zero chances of an invitation. I don't think I could stand the smell, anyhow.
Thank you. And now it's my turn to be up early. I never say old age sucks, though. I'm conscious that it is better than the alternative...
Thank you, Red Pen.
What about his father?
The change he's talking about is Clayton's change, as in "Claytons, the drink you're having when you're not having a drink".
Who Darth Vader? Well... there is always the Force.

I never say old age sucks, though. I'm conscious that it is better than the alternative...

Just what my dad always used to say. He also used to say that old age isn't for wimps. As a rule, I don't complain about getting older. I've earned it. But this middle age business of waking in the middle of the night sweating like a pig ain't fun. Fortunately, it's just a phase. I'll outgrow it! 8:-)
I'm soooo waiting to see the end of that one too. Though the cats just love the notion of me rousing at 3am. One of those ill-wind things...
FYI - His father lived to be 70.

This from the Arlington Cemetery website (http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/mccainjr.htm):

Born at Council Bluffs, Iowa, January 17, 1911, the son of John Sidney and Katherine Valux McCain. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1931. He married Roberta Wright, January 21, 1933. He was commissioned Ensign, 1931, and was advanced through the grades to Admiral.

It was during this period that his son, Commander John S. McCain III, USN, was a prisoner of war in Vietnam after being shot down while on an air mission over North Vietnam. His son is presently a United States Senator from Arizona. He retired in 1972.

He resided in Washington, D. C. until his death there on March 22, 1981. He was buried in Section 3 (Grave 4001) of Arlington National Cemetery among other family members.

Though the cats just love the notion of me rousing at 3am. One of those ill-wind things...

Mine too. Why must they do that little happy dance when I get up in the middle of the night? Can't they see that I'm not happy?
Thanks Snowy. Even by your high standards, this is a superbly written expression of how so many of us feel. Thank you for caring about humanity and the planet so much.
And his grandfather lived to 61 (August 9, 1884 to September 6, 1945)
Touche.
If we can't laugh about politics sometimes, then there is no hope! :)
Thanks GOF. I was conscious of you guys at my shoulder when I wrote it.
Not looking good, Johnny....
I was going to say if your lot get in there's no hope anyway. But I won't...

And his grandfather lived to 61 (August 9, 1884 to September 6, 1945)

Yes. He died the day after he came home from WW2. Makes me think he was just tired of all the inhumanity.
[this is good]
Wow they didn't invite you, really? I wonder why? ;)

No invite probably is the least of your concerns, they've probably sent your name onto the people who manage the terrorist watch lists by now. Have fun if you ever try to fly here ;)
Wow they didn't invite you, really? I wonder why? ;)

I was wondering that myself. Bloody Post Office stuffed up again...
Wow, Snowy, that was rather eloquent if I do say so myself. Nothing to disagree with here.
Thanks. I didn't think you'd find anything to disagree with. ;o)
[das ist gut]
Snowy for President of the Planet!

woo hoo!

you spoke on my behalf very well, indeed:)
Thank you, I accept the nomination. I'll have to put a lot of thought into my choice of VP though. I was told that red necked female pit bulls with pregnant pups seem to be in fashion these days. I think he was joking as no-one would be stupid enough to vote for that.
[this is good]

Oh, Snowy....this is beautiful. It makes me want to hop in a boat and paddle across the Pacific to come and hug you.

I've said it before but I'll say it again--I only wish a portion of Americans were as aware and impassioned as you are.

i had to read that twice

you should see my face...

BURN!

ah, Snow, what would we do without you

i shudder to think...
I find that I struggle a lot, as a voting American, to reconcile a purported notion of "smaller government" (a notion the Republicans espouse) and the deficit we've ran up. I know I am not alone in feeling ashamed at times of how we must look to the rest of the world. Not to say I don't believe in this country, I thank the powers that may be just about every DAY that I can wake up and b*tch about the "crappy administration" or "the lesser of the presidential candidate evils" or "screw the danged Department of Motor Vehicles" without stasi busting into my bathroom to silence me. But even without throwing tomatoes at Republicans or Democrats or anyone else, it's so clear we need a completely new modus operandi, and I'm not seeing how what Senator McCain is saying jibes with change at all. It's simultaneously flattering and humbling to know there are people like you in the world, watching. May we not let the world down. :) Of course, I say that. Democrat gets in the White House, and two years later, the Republicans will have congress, and once more, the Law of the Traffic Jam will reign supreme.
Thanks, Farfaraway. Cuddles are always welcome. I'll be over your way in a year or two, so can I have a rain check on that? But only if you guys vote the right way. If the Dark side wins, I don't think they'd let me in.

Well, you know I will be voting the right way! ;-) We'd love to have you, Snowy!

I tried watching the videos today, but I don't think I'm going to have time...they're an hour apiece!!

You don't have time not to. They are a must. Do one at a time.
I'll try...I've got to add it to my neverending, always-growing To Do list...

It is true that the Bush administration squandered the tremendous goodwill directed towards the U.S. after 9/11. That goodwill will again be there if Obama wins in November.

So far as disillusionment with government, no matter which party is in power, that's the lot of governments in democracies around the world. We, the people, are an ungrateful lot. That's part of the fun.

Don't waste time on stuff like eating until after the election. It's that important.
[this is good]
Wish I'd read this sooner. Great piece, Snowy.
Thanks Kirk. Maybe they'll invite me next time.
